Chapter Eight: Opportunity
“What do you mean?” Angie clearly hadn’t expected Li Ran to say such a thing. “Your husband is with me now—can you really forgive him for cheating?”
“Men, you know, sometimes enjoy the world outside. It’s quite normal,” Li Ran replied, touching her flat belly. “But now that he has a child, he has a sense of responsibility. He’ll come back to this home. As for what he told you, those are just lies for girls like you. Did you really believe him?”
“What… did you say?” Angie stared at her belly in disbelief. Zhang Fanfan hadn’t mentioned anything about a child.
Seeing Angie so shocked and at a loss, Li Ran felt a sudden, inexplicable thrill inside.
“No… no… Last night, Fanfan even proposed to me—he couldn’t possibly be lying!” Angie refused to believe her words, but seeing Li Ran’s certainty, she grew anxious, mumbling to herself.
Li Ran was about to say something when the office door swung open. The sales director’s assistant entered, seeing them both there. “Manager Li, Director Zhang wants to see you. Oh, and Angie, you should come too.”
“All right, I’ll be right there.”
Angie quickly composed herself, picked up her folder, and walked ahead, with Li Ran following close behind.
Inside the office, Zhang Dechuan sat upright, and when he saw them arrive, he gestured to the seats in front of him. “Take a seat, both of you.”
“Regarding the cooperation from the day before yesterday, Angie did very well. But Li Ran, you really need to reflect on yourself. If Angie hadn’t handled the aftermath, this deal could have caused significant losses for our company. Do you understand?”
“Yes, I understand.”
Zhang Dechuan said nothing more and handed a document across the desk.
“This is today’s sales proposal for Huiteng Group. Their representative is already in the conference room. Get familiar with it and head over. Angie, you’ve already reviewed it, so you can go along and assist Li Ran.”
“Certainly, Director Zhang.”
Li Ran glanced at Angie, knowing full well she was prepared for this.
Leaving the office, Angie blocked Li Ran’s path, speaking with disdain. “Sister Ran, didn’t you notice that Director Zhang doesn’t trust you anymore? Normally, you’d handle this alone. Today he wants me to assist you. Isn’t it obvious?”
“So what? Do you think just one deal will let you climb over me? Don’t forget—you’re still my secretary. You follow my orders.”
Li Ran snorted coldly and headed for the conference room.
Angie was left speechless, glaring at her retreating figure. She hadn’t realized Li Ran could be so difficult!
On the way to the conference room, Li Ran quickly flipped through the proposal. She had a remarkable memory, able to recall the main contents with just a glance.
She pushed open the door and immediately put on a smile. “Hello, I’m Li Ran, the person in charge of this project—”
Before she could finish, she saw the man sitting before her, his face stern, locking eyes with her.
Wasn’t this the man from the hospital who had offered to help her? Why was he here now? She glanced at the document in her hand. No mistake—the representative from Huiteng Group was indeed in this conference room.
“Are you… Mr. Ye Huai from Huiteng Group?” Li Ran asked uncertainly.
“We meet again,” Ye Huai greeted her as if she were an old friend. “Have you considered what I mentioned last time?”
Li Ran understood what he meant, but after her conversation with Angie, she no longer wished to let those two people benefit from a divorce.
“I’m sorry, Mr. Ye Huai. Right now, we’re here to discuss business.”
Ye Huai suddenly stood from his chair, walked over, and trapped her in the corner by the door. Their proximity was close; because of the height difference, Li Ran’s face was pressed against his chest, and she could distinctly feel his breath above her head.
“What… what are you doing? This is the company!” Li Ran’s voice trembled.
“Lift your head and look at me,” Ye Huai commanded.
Li Ran didn’t move—not because she didn’t want to, but because her body had suddenly tensed up, making it impossible to react.
For some reason, Ye Huai was drawn to her unique scent; unable to restrain himself, his breathing grew heavier. He furrowed his brow, gripping her chin and forcing her to look up at him.
“I’m giving you one last chance. If you miss it, coming to me next time won’t be as simple as a conversation.”
