Chapter Ninety-Eight: A Hard-Fought Kill
And every one of them was dressed in a suit, even down to the rings on their fingers. There was no other sect rumored to be nearby; the only possible explanation was that these were all people from Mount Celestial Sun.
I stood in a brocade robe amid the cold wind, gazing ahead, and somehow even seemed a little overbearing.
I stood at the very back for a while and listened. All I could hear was the ceaseless clamor of fighting from the front; I saw nothing else.
At that moment, the people in the cars also opened their windows one after another and leaned out to look.
They were generally quite young, both men and women. Some of them carried spiritual power; others did not.
Like children who had never seen the world, they were all discussing what was happening ahead.
Seeing that the fighting would not end anytime soon, I decided to move forward myself and take a look.
Dragging my robe as I passed through the convoy, that group of youngsters noticed me as well, but the place was too noisy, and I could not make out what they were saying.
As I slowly made my way forward, I finally saw the giant beast.
Because the road ahead sloped downward, I had not been able to see it at all from behind.
Up close, I nearly jumped in shock. It was a giant serpent, more than a meter wide, with a waist as thick as a barrel.
Its length was even more astounding, stretching well over ten meters, and it was now slaughtering its way through the crowd.
Still, fortunately, these people were not fools. They did not act rashly, but only circled it, waiting for the right moment to strike.
So there were, for the time being, no deaths, though many were already wounded.
Just then, I heard a wealthy young man nearby, at the second level of Spirit Leaves, say, “My master told me about this thing! It is called the Giant Blue Python. I heard that once it cultivates to a certain level, it can even take human form. It is extremely formidable.”
Indeed, the scions of wealthy families were different; they knew far more than the others.
Seeing that the suit-wearing men were already on the verge of collapsing and the situation had turned against them, I had no choice but to step forward and help.
Before coming here, I had already infused Snow Blade with a great deal of spiritual energy in advance, and at that moment it was impatient to fight alongside me.
I gripped the still unsummoned Snow Blade in one hand and rushed forward at once.
Because there were still stones scattered on the ground, I feared I might slip and fall, so I even leaped onto the tops of the cars and ran along them.
Then I heard someone in a car below say, “Wow, who is that? He looks incredible.”
“Exactly. Look at the way he’s dressed—he seems like some martial hero.”
I bared my teeth in a smile. Being praised like this really did feel rather good.
I moved very quickly, and in less than a minute I had reached the very front.
Several people were already injured and leaning against a large tree to rest, while the giant python seemed to be playing with them, taking this group of Spirit Flower cultivators not the least bit seriously.
I slowly circled behind the python, preparing to land a strike.
But the python seemed to have eyes in its tail. Before I could even make a move, it lashed out with its tail. I leaped upward and just managed to dodge the attack.
Taking advantage of the moment while I was falling, I slashed the python once.
But I had not expected its skin to be so hard. My strike only tore a little flesh, without drawing even a drop of blood.
I quickly shifted position and regrouped with the others.
When these people saw me rush over, they even raised their blades warily for a moment, but with the python attacking relentlessly, they had no time to deal with me.
Because my level was higher than theirs, I fought with greater ease as well.
At that moment, a middle-aged man with a goatee asked me, “Who are you?”
I did not want to hide it and told the truth.
“My name is Lin Yao. I came to find the elder.”
After speaking, I worried he might not believe me, so I threw him my token as proof.
He looked at it skeptically for a few moments, and then his expression suddenly filled with shame as he was about to bow to me.
“Forget it, forget it. Let’s kill this huge fellow first.”
The middle-aged man nodded heavily, then clasped his hands and said, “I am Qin Ciyu.”
After that, I took back the token, tossed it into my ring, and launched another round of attacks.
With my joining the battle, the python was forced to take me seriously, and it began to hate me with a vengeance.
And precisely because I had joined in, the drivers finally had room to catch their breath.
I circled the python and struck it repeatedly, but I only managed to scrape its skin; it did not affect its movements in the slightest.
It was only thanks to its slow speed that we were able to hold out this long, otherwise we would all have been dead already.
As I ran, I suddenly remembered an old saying: to kill a snake, strike its vital point. I decided to try it.
Thinking that, I shouted, “Brother Qin, help me draw its attention!”
A prompt reply came from over there: “All right!”
Just like that, I stayed at the python’s side, waiting for an opening.
Fortunately, the python was not very tall, so I should be able to jump onto it; otherwise my plan could not be carried out.
Then, for some reason, the giant python let out a long cry toward the sky, and I hurriedly leaped onto its back.
Its roar was deafening, but it could not stop me from continuing upward.
Because the python’s skin was extremely slippery, advancing was very difficult. With every step, I had to circulate spiritual energy under my feet just to keep from slipping.
After it finished roaring, the python began thrashing even more fiercely.
Perhaps it sensed me on its back. No matter how much it shook, it could not throw me off, and it could not strike me, so it could only shake its body madly in an effort to force me down.
I measured it in my mind: the snake’s vital point should be just one step ahead of me.
I gathered all my strength and leaped upward, while the Snow Blade in my hand burst forth with brilliant light in perfect coordination with me.
With a ripping sound, I successfully drove it into the python’s body.
The python could not bear the pain and once again let out a heart-rending scream.
I hurriedly protected my body with spiritual energy before I felt better, otherwise I would surely have gone deaf from being so close.
I pulled out Snow Blade and jumped down from behind the python.
Only then did I discover another problem: the white brocade robe I was wearing did not seem to take on a single stain of blood. Perhaps it was because it was made of silk.
“Beautiful!”
“Incredible!”
“That kid is amazing. He seems even more formidable than all of us.”
Though these drivers were praising me, I did not let down my guard, because the python was not yet dead.
I quickly circled back to its front, gathered strength once more, and drove a single strike into its head.
Only then did the python finally die.
Watching its body slowly go limp, I withdrew Snow Blade as well.
I let out a long breath. I had not expected this giant fellow to be so difficult to kill.
At that moment, Qin Ciyu ran over and said to me, “You are truly amazing. I was rude earlier. Please forgive me.”
I quickly helped him up and waved my hand. “No matter. I’ll be staying at Mount Celestial Sun for a while anyway. From now on, we’ll still need to help each other.”
In this world where the strong prey on the weak, people like me who can speak this way to those weaker than myself are probably few and far between.
“Then please come with me. I’ll take you to Mount Celestial Sun.”
I nodded and followed him to his car.
Just as I was about to get in, I suddenly remembered the taxi I had taken here. It should not have left yet, should it?
I looked from afar and saw that besides the vehicles of Mount Celestial Sun, there were no other cars left.
The driver must have heard the commotion ahead and fled in a hurry.
I did not think much of it. If he had run off, so be it—I still had a ride.
