Chapter 120: Asking for Trouble
The long spear gleamed in the sunlight, carrying a chill in the hand—clearly worth every bit of five million.
"Here, I got it for you."
I handed the spear to Chen Chen, who caught it with a look of disbelief.
"Damn, Yao Ge, you're loaded. Five million, just like that?"
Even Li Zijian, the young master of a wealthy family, called me rich—but only I knew the box was what was actually valuable.
I tilted my head with a smile and said to Chen Chen, "Try it out. This spear should be pretty good."
Chen Chen covertly wiped away a tear, then gripped the spear and thrust it forward with force.
The spear traced a perfect arc through the air, trailing a tail of blue spiritual energy behind it, looking utterly imposing.
"This spear is excellent... thanks."
I hadn't expected Chen Chen to thank me anyway, since he was never one for words.
Sure enough, after a brief word of gratitude, he was completely absorbed in the spear.
"Alright, let's head out."
Chen Chen trailed behind me, twirling the spear in his hands until it was a blur.
We walked leisurely down the street—Chen Chen still fiddling with his new spear, while Li Zijian kept glancing around left and right.
Chen Chen really loved that spear, taking it out of his ring and putting it back in, over and over.
This visit had turned up some things I hadn't seen the last time.
Like reddish-yellow rabbits, bizarrely shaped pets, and even someone selling umbrellas.
I later learned the umbrella was a weapon—the handle concealed poison and hidden darts, and the canopy was forged from special materials, incredibly tough.
There were even more magical artifacts: bagua formations, demon-revealing mirrors, shrinking talismans—a seemingly endless array of treasures.
The crowd was sizable, everyone coming and going in a hurry, with few strolling like us.
After wandering for a good while, the four of us decided it was time to leave.
Just as we were about to step through the barrier gate, a burst of shouting erupted behind us.
I didn't think much of it and turned to jump through the gate.
The scene shifted, and I stood inside Qilin Hall once more, the other three following me out.
As soon as we were all together, Old Li spoke up from behind.
"That shouting just now sounded like someone from the Xia family."
I frowned—what were the Xia family doing barging into Qulong Town? But then Old Li added, "No need to worry though. That Xia family member isn't strong. The town's management will deal with him shortly."
I nodded and headed for the door.

After we left Qilin Hall, sounds of fighting broke out behind us.
I was furious. I whipped out the Snow Blade and turned to look.
A man came rushing out in a panic, clutching his wounded chest, arrogance still written on his face.
I kicked him to the ground and pointed the Snow Blade at his throat. "You're from the Xia family?"
He gave me a sinister grin and nodded.
But I showed no mercy—one clean stroke and his throat was cut.
The moment he fell, several more figures burst out of the barrier gate.
They were all clad in armor, and their cultivation levels were considerable—all uniformly at Spiritual Flower, third grade.
Seeing me kill the man, they cupped their fists and said, "Thank you, young hero, for removing a scourge for the people. This man was a menace; should you ever encounter him again, we hope you'll slay him on sight."
I shrugged indifferently and sheathed the Snow Blade.
Then I walked toward the parking spot. For some reason, my mood had turned dark.
On the way back, I didn't say a word, my face set in a scowl.
But suddenly I felt a chill ripple through my body.
That cold energy was utterly foreign to me—certainly nothing good. Combined with my earlier mood, I could confirm: it seemed I was possessed by a yin spirit again.
With that thought, I sat in the car and began cultivating the Tanzi Record.
My second uncle had once told me that if you were ever unlucky enough to be possessed by a yin spirit, you could only drive out its evil with your own righteous energy.
I strained to circulate the Tanzi Record, but some force seemed to be blocking me at every turn.
At the critical moment, Chen Chen must have sent a stream of pure spiritual energy into me, helping shatter the barrier.
The Tanzi Record began to flow normally, and my body gradually warmed up.
Slowly, I felt another force struggling inside me—it wanted to stay, but I drove it back step by step.
But evil never prevails over good, and I managed to cast it out.
The instant it left, a great weight lifted from my chest.
I took a deep breath and emerged from my cultivation state.
Only then did I realize I was drenched in sweat—but at least I was better now.
"What's wrong, Yao Ge? Old Chen said you got possessed by a yin spirit. Are you gonna die or something..."
I punched him lightly, then patted Chen Chen on the shoulder.
Chen Chen understood, giving me a small smile and a nod.
This time I really owed it to Chen Chen—without him, I probably wouldn't have beaten that yin spirit.

I rolled down the window and looked outside.
We were about halfway there now. Li Zijian had regained his earlier energy, sitting up front and jabbering away at Chen Chen nonstop.
"Jian Zi, didn't you say you wanted to buy a weapon? Why didn't you get one?"
Li Zijian suddenly remembered, slapping his thigh hard.
"Right! Damn, I totally forgot!"
That set the whole car laughing, and the heavy atmosphere broke.
The scenery outside the window blurred past, and before long we got off the highway and onto a desolate back road.
But I had a nagging feeling something was about to happen—and sure enough, as we passed a stretch of dirt road, the car slammed to a sudden halt for no apparent reason.
Braking hard at high speed meant the car flipped forward several times.
"Protect your heads!"
I shouted as I tumbled around in the back seat.
But this kind of minor injury only gave us a few scrapes at worst.
After rolling a few times, the car finally came to a stop at the roadside—luckily, still right-side up.
"Everyone out. Now!"
I knew the sudden brake wasn't Old Li's doing, because he still looked completely dazed. So we must have run into something.
I kicked open the jammed window, leaped out, and landed on the roof of the car.
From the distance, three figures approached, and their expressions looked oddly familiar.
I jumped down, and the other three climbed out one by one.
"Whoa, that scared the hell out of me..." Li Zijian complained, clutching his arm, but the three strangers had already reached us.
I was about to speak when the strongest among them said, "Allow me to introduce myself. My name is Xia Jiyan. I've come to find you because you killed my puppet—you'll pay with your life."
So this was Xia Jiyan. I'd been wanting to test his measure for a while now.
"Hah, cut the crap!"
I let out a low growl, and the Snow Blade I'd already readied in my hand flashed from its sheath.
Xia Jiyan had a face full of coarse flesh but a short, squat build—just a little thug.
The other two were brimming with confidence as well: one at Spiritual Flower, second grade, the other at first grade.
The second-grade one naturally went to Chen Chen, while the first-grade one would be handled by Li Zijian and Old Li together.
