At last, the morning training was over. With a trace of exhaustion, I dragged myself toward the Yulin Pavilion.

Today, our first class was to be held outdoors. The teacher had already informed us to gather at the pavilion first.

It seemed I was the first to arrive. The pavilion was empty, with only me sitting at the entrance reading a book.

I reviewed the Five Thunders Technique several more times. Now, I could just barely manage to use it once, though in a moment of nervousness, I might still make a mistake.

After a while, more people trickled in. The teacher had yet to arrive, and the door was locked, so we couldn't go inside.

Seeing me sitting on the stone steps reading, everyone else took out their own books and, mimicking me, sat neatly in rows behind me.

Just before nine, the teacher finally arrived. I later learned that this bespectacled teacher was called Shangguan Xinqiang—the very instructor of my first class when I had arrived.

He seemed a bit surprised to see us all sitting so orderly on the stone steps, reading, but upon noticing I was at the front, it no longer seemed strange to him.

Now that everyone had arrived, the teacher cleared his throat and said,

"Well done, everyone. Today, we will spend the entire day training on Shenfeng Mountain. Get yourselves ready—we depart promptly at nine-thirty."

This class was somewhat beyond my expectations. In the past, at most, we only sparred with each other, but now we were to venture into the wild. Our opponents, I assumed, would be fearsome beasts.

Everyone seemed excited, rushing off in groups back to their dorms to prepare.

I had nothing to get ready, so I simply remained seated on the steps, reading.

A few other disciples did the same, including Zhang Shun and Luan Teng, whom I had defeated a couple of days ago.

I had never used the Five Thunders Technique before. This would be an excellent opportunity to test its power on Shenfeng Mountain.

The teacher, seeing our dedication, chose not to disturb us, instead idly sitting nearby, smoking.

As I fiddled with my fingers and silently recited the incantation, to my surprise, a Bagua formation suddenly appeared.

Startled, I realized I had made a mistake. Not just me—those beside me were also taken aback.

I gave an awkward smile, then lifted the Bagua formation with one hand and crushed it.

The teacher, observing my skill in Daoist arts, approached and asked, "Where did you learn your Daoist techniques?"

I glanced at him and replied, "Self-taught."

To most, this might have sounded like boasting, but I had genuinely taught myself.

The teacher silently pushed up his glasses and murmured beside me, "It's rare to find a genius like you these days..."

I said nothing and continued to study the Five Thunders Technique.

Before long, the rest of the students returned, and I put my book away, taking my place at the front of the group.

"Many of you have heard of Shenfeng Mountain," the teacher began. "It is home to many demon beasts, but thanks to the former sect leader's formations, they cannot escape. Thus, it is the perfect place for our training."

"Today, as we enter Shenfeng Mountain, you must look after one another, and show no mercy to the beasts!"

"Let's go!"

With that, the teacher led us in grand procession toward Shenfeng Mountain.

I remembered seeing it on the map—situated at the westernmost edge of Tianyang Mountain, said to be the most magnificent peak.

With so many of us, all inner core disciples, our march across the plaza drew quite a bit of attention.

"Look, the inner core disciples are heading out for another training session..."

"I wish I could go with them—fighting looks so fun..."

"Look, Lin Yao joined them too. So handsome..."

I had heard such comments many times before and no longer cared.

The inner core disciples behind me, however, strutted with pride, clearly enjoying the attention.

After a long trek, our group of over thirty finally reached the foot of Shenfeng Mountain.

From a distance, the mountain seemed wrapped in a layer of spiritual energy, with countless swirling currents inside.

"This is Shenfeng Mountain. Soon, we will enter together. Once inside, you must all disperse—each of you must survive in the mountain for a day."

"Of course, to prevent accidents, I have prepared protective talismans for you."

With that, the teacher drew more than thirty yellow talismans from a ring.

"Just keep the talisman on your person—it can save your life at a critical moment. Remember, in the mountain, be careful, careful, and more careful. Do you understand?"

"Understood!"

"Understood!"

"Understood!"

...

The mood among us was high. Everyone was eager to begin, but my instincts warned me that the beasts here would not be so simple.

The teacher distributed the talismans, then led us into the mountain.

After we had walked some distance, the teacher said,

"Beyond this point, you will begin to encounter demon beasts. Unlike other secret realms, here the strength of the beasts is not determined by depth. They are scattered throughout the mountain. The first beast you meet could be the most powerful, so do not let your guard down."

At these words, I drew my Snowblade and quietly made my way up the mountain.

Seeing me leave, the others relaxed—some paired up, while others, like me, preferred to go alone.

The teacher followed those who were less powerful, ensuring their safety.

The mountain was covered with pine trees, their needles ready to prick the unwary, much to my annoyance.

At least visibility was good, though the spiritual energy I had sensed before entering had vanished.

I knew danger was inevitable, but what worried me more was not knowing where it would come from.

Carefully, I wove through the forest, occasionally sensing brief surges of spiritual energy nearby—never from fellow disciples, only from demon beasts.

I wandered for ages without encountering a single beast. Frustrated, I began to run at full speed, searching everywhere.

If I couldn't find a beast, perhaps neither could the others. By running in one direction, and others in different directions, maybe we could herd the beasts together.

After a while, I finally heard a commotion.

From a clump of grass to my side came a hissing sound.

In an instant, I formed a hand seal, and unleashed a Bolt of Thunder, striking the clump directly.

The creature within leaped forth. I saw clearly: it stood about one and a half meters tall, had the head of a lizard, the body of a snake, and, to my astonishment, the limbs of a crocodile. Its feet were small, but it stood firmly upright.

I frowned at it—not because it was powerful, but because its appearance was so grotesque.

The thing, clearly startled, bared its teeth at me.

"A mongrel beast..." I muttered under my breath, summoning the Snowblade.

Using a nearby tree for leverage, I kicked off and launched myself toward it.

The beast lunged as well, its claws sharp as blades.

Before I even closed the distance, I unleashed another Bolt of Thunder.

It dodged the first strike, but could not withstand what I had in store next.
