Chapter 15: You Understand People, I Understand People

Repeatedly ignored, Sheng Ting unsurprisingly lost his composure. He resorted once again to his tired threats. "Jiang Nanxing, Yueyue is right! It’s because I’ve been too good to you that you feel so brazen!"
"Before my patience runs out, you’d better appear in front of me immediately!"
What? Too good to her?
Jiang Nanxing was ready to challenge him. "Then please tell me, Mr. Sheng, in what way have you been good to me?"
Sheng Ting sneered coldly, "If it weren’t for me, your seriously ill mother would never have received such top-tier medical care in this lifetime."
Jiang Nanxing lowered her gaze, poking at the rice in her bowl with her chopsticks. "Did my mother really receive treatment?"
Without hesitation, Sheng Ting replied, "Of course! Otherwise, how could your mother still be alive and not in critical danger?"
Jiang Nanxing gave a faint, ambiguous laugh.
This man showed no hint of guilt.
Sheng Ting clearly knew that Jiang’s mother had not received the proper treatment.
System 240 had mentioned that it could obtain surveillance footage anywhere with cameras.
So, to avoid wrongly accusing him, Jiang Nanxing had System 240 check.
Some footage showed that Sheng Ting was aware.
But Yao Xinyue had told him, "Isn’t Jiang’s mother fine? Even if the treatment medications were changed, it wasn’t a big deal."
The condition wasn’t as severe as Jiang Nanxing claimed.
They weren’t refusing treatment; rather, Jiang’s mother simply didn’t require such high-end medical resources.
It seemed Jiang Nanxing was exaggerating her mother’s condition to extract more benefits from Sheng Ting.
Sheng Ting believed this and tacitly accepted the hospital’s replacement of Jiang’s treatment drugs.
He even assigned Yao Xinyue to handle the matter.
Jiang Nanxing thought these two were no longer merely foolish but downright malicious.
Sheng Ting continued listing how good he was to Jiang Nanxing, "And your gambler father and useless younger brother—if I hadn’t been supporting them, they’d have been beaten to death by debt collectors long ago!"
Sometimes, when words fail, laughter emerges. "Did I ask you to support them? They’re parasites who cling to others like social pests. I’d rather they die."
Sheng Ting exploded in anger. "Yueyue was right! You’re truly cold-hearted and terrifying! You don’t even care about your own family!"
Perhaps because Jiang Nanxing had never thought Sheng Ting was a good man or held any expectations of him, she was mostly speechless.
She wondered how deeply the original Jiang Nanxing would have been hurt hearing these words. "The family you speak of—are they the ones who beat me daily, refused to let me attend school before I was an adult, and even tried to sell me into the mountains?"

Sheng Ting was dismissive. "That’s just your one-sided story. Otherwise, how could you have graduated from university?"
Jiang Nanxing was about to say more when Qin Jiu reached out and hung up the call. "That’s enough."
The phone showed the call recording was complete.
Indeed, Jiang Nanxing hadn’t expected Sheng Ting to sympathize.
She only wanted to record as much of his enraged rambling as possible, so his image could never be redeemed.
Qin Jiu rolled up his cuff to reveal a strong forearm and steadily held a bowl of soup. "Certainly, no one can choose where they’re born, but when one can choose their own future, it means they are inherently strong—and it has nothing to do with anyone else."
After he spoke, he placed the soup in front of Jiang Nanxing. "Here, drink some chicken broth."
Jiang Nanxing twitched slightly at the corner of her mouth; this ‘chicken broth’ was doubly meaningful.
Qin Jiu wiped his hands and casually asked, "So why did you get involved with Sheng Ting?"
Jiang Nanxing lowered her head to savor the delicious broth, replying, "Oh, didn’t you already investigate?"
"I went to him for my mother’s illness."
Qin Jiu shook his head. "That’s not the truth."
Nor did it fit Jiang Nanxing’s character.
With her abilities, she had better ways to handle the situation.
Besides, she graduated from a prestigious university and had solid professional knowledge.
Perhaps she struggled at first because of her mother’s illness, but it wouldn’t take long for her to earn enough to cover the medical expenses.
Jiang Nanxing looked up calmly. "The night after my interview, my mother suddenly fell ill and was hospitalized—surgery was necessary."
"At that time, I had no money—not even a penny—and couldn’t possibly come up with nearly 150,000 yuan for the operation."
"I had to borrow money everywhere, trying to gather the surgery funds."
"Then Sheng Ting appeared. He paid the surgery fee and arranged the best attending doctor for my mother."
"I was very grateful and promised to repay him."
"Sheng Ting said I could repay the money, but that top-tier doctor wasn’t someone money alone could hire."
"If I truly wanted to thank him, all I had to do was stay by his side."
"Everyone knows what happened next."
The company where Jiang Nanxing interviewed was Sheng Ting’s, and they met briefly during the interview.
That night, Sheng Ting saw Jiang Nanxing again at the hospital.

The story even included his confession about why his relationship with Yao Xinyue was ambiguous and why he behaved as he did: When he saw that girl crying while clutching her phone, he didn’t know why, but he kept her by his side in this unclear manner.
This was purely crafted to paint Sheng Ting as someone who loved without realizing it.
System 240 howled, "Host, you can’t let anyone discover you’re not the original Jiang Nanxing!"
Qin Jiu was stunned.
So, before she could even take flight, someone had clipped Jiang Nanxing’s wings.
It was just that Jiang Nanxing’s way of telling the story was strange—like recounting someone else’s tale.
Then he heard Jiang Nanxing say, "After discovering the so-called top-tier medical resources were a lie, that highly moral, compliant Jiang Nanxing died. From now on, call me Niuhuru Jiang Nanxing!"
She said it with utmost seriousness.
Qin Jiu chuckled, his lingering doubts dispelled.
Clearly, despite all the hardships she endured, she remained optimistic.
Such a Jiang Nanxing would naturally attract Sheng Ting’s attention and pique his interest.
System 240 said, "Huh? That’s it?"
Jiang Nanxing calmly sipped the soup. "What else could it be?"
240 truly didn’t understand. "Why not just say outright that you’re not the original Jiang Nanxing?"
Jiang Nanxing thought 240 was making a big deal out of nothing. "Who understands people better, you or me?"
240: So frustrated... no rebuttal.
That evening, Jiang Nanxing indeed saw fireworks all over the city.
They were grand and spectacular.
These weren’t ordinary fireworks but clusters forming patterns.
Such a high-profile event, of course, went viral.
Netizens quickly recognized: Sheng Ting? Isn’t he the same Sheng Ting recently sued for not signing labor contracts and withholding employee wages?
