Chapter Thirteen: Junior, You're Being So Boldly Flirtatious

Zhu Zhuqing did not rush to absorb the immortal herb. Instead, she placed it in her storage pouch.
What she had not told Gu Chen was that absorbing this immortal herb might cause her martial soul to undergo a transformation. There was a certain chance it could evolve into the legendary Netherworld Dragon Cat. The Netherworld Dragon Cat possessed the dragon’s ferocity and the cat’s agility, making it extraordinarily difficult to deal with.
However, the transformation process carried considerable danger. She would need someone she trusted completely to guard her at her side—and ideally, that person should be a man. Dragons were naturally lustful, and if she could not suppress the sudden blaze of desire erupting within her, she might easily explode and die. Yet if she managed to endure it, the benefits would be beyond imagination.
The tremendous enhancement to her physical body and soul went without saying. The increase in potential, as well as the improvement to her various attributes and skills, would be equally inconceivable.
Originally, Dai Mubai had been the best candidate. But now, she wanted to wait a little longer—to wait for someone to grow stronger. She did not know when it had happened, and perhaps she herself had not even noticed, but someone’s figure had quietly and imperceptibly begun to take Dai Mubai’s place in her heart.
After storing away the Netherworld Dragoncry Flower, Zhu Zhuqing once again followed Gu Chen to the cave of the Netherdark Wolf.
Sensing Zhu Zhuqing’s presence again, the Netherdark Wolf trembled in terror. It hid inside the cave and did not dare come out, allowing Gu Chen and Zhu Zhuqing to take away most of the spirit herbs.
By the time they returned to the academy, it was already deep into the night. After washing up, Gu Chen was just about to go to sleep when the door was suddenly pushed open from outside.
Dai Mubai entered his room, his face filled with fury.
“Gu Chen, tell me where you and Zhuqing went tonight.”
“We went to the little woods. Why?”
“What did you go to the little woods for?”
“What else would anyone do in the little woods?”
“Tell me what you did!”
As he spoke those words, Dai Mubai was already struggling to suppress his anger.
“Boss Dai, what’s wrong with you today? Why have you suddenly come here to act crazy for no reason?”
“Don’t change the subject. I’m asking what you and Zhuqing did in the little woods tonight!”
Dai Mubai’s eyes were bloodshot, the veins on his body bulging. He looked like a fierce tiger on the verge of devouring a man.
“Let me think.”
While keeping Dai Mubai on tenterhooks, Gu Chen happily absorbed the anger and resentment emanating from him.
This wave of fury came so fiercely that Gu Chen, who had only just broken through to the fifth rank of Soul Master, felt his cultivation begin to loosen once more.
“Today, the two of us ate together, took a walk by the lake together, and went to the villagers’ homes to buy bamboo together.”
“Get to the point!”
Dai Mubai gritted his teeth, his tiger eyes wide with rage. He was already on the brink of losing control.
“What point?”
“Master Zhao, what brings you here?”
Dai Mubai turned around, and Gu Chen suddenly activated his martial soul. Using a savage charge combined with Iron Mountain Lean, he sent Dai Mubai flying into the courtyard, where he smashed several tables and stools that Yu Xiaogang had bought not long before.
The noise was tremendous and immediately attracted the attention of everyone at Shrek Academy. The teachers and students all awoke from their meditation.
Looking at Dai Mubai as he struggled to his feet, battered and disheveled, they instantly guessed what had happened.
That fellow must have gone looking for trouble with Gu Chen again!
Zhao Wuji came before Dai Mubai and scolded him. “Whatever the matter is, couldn’t you have waited until tomorrow to discuss it? Just look at the state you’re in!”
“Teacher Zhao, Zhuqing threw out everything I gave her.”
“Isn’t that perfectly normal? …Did you make her angry again?”
“No! I didn’t do anything. You told me to reflect on myself, so I stayed in my room and reflected properly. I didn’t go anywhere! I didn’t even see Zhuqing all afternoon. Just now, I suddenly gained an insight and broke through in my cultivation. Unable to contain my joy, I went into the courtyard to practice a set of Subduing Dragon and Taming Tiger Fists.”
The book Dai Mubai had bought from a street stall had, naturally, been published by Gu Chen.
As he reached this point, Dai Mubai’s expression suddenly became extremely aggrieved.
“But when I arrived in the courtyard, I discovered a pile of gifts I had given Zhuqing beside the trash bin. Several of them had taken me ages to buy—I had waited in line for them! I wanted to ask Zhuqing why she had done it!”
“But when you couldn’t find Zhuqing, you went looking for trouble with Gu Chen instead, is that it?” Zhao Wuji asked, his expression gloomy and deeply disappointed.
“Teacher Zhao, how did you know?”
“Because Zhuqing was just with me and the others in the courtyard. When she and Gu Chen went out to train, they discovered many priceless treasures. They were discussing how to divide them among us…”
“Then we heard the commotion you caused. Mubai, you have truly disappointed us!”
“As the leader of the Shrek Seven Monsters, not only have you failed to set an example, you constantly make things difficult for our new junior.”
“Let’s say Zhu Zhuqing and Gu Chen have nothing between them. Even if they do, that would be because Gu Chen has the ability! What reason do you have to resent him? What right do you have to complain? In terms of looks, Gu Chen is no worse than you—in fact, he surpasses you by quite a bit. In terms of talent, even Tang San might be inferior to him. And in terms of character, is there anyone among the seven of you who dares claim to be better than him?”
“No, right? A man must be able to pick something up, and he must also be able to put it down. Do you understand?”
“Teacher Zhao, Gu Chen is sinister, cunning, and treacherous. Ever since he came to our academy, there hasn’t been a moment of peace! I truly don’t know what you see in him.”
“What do I see in him? Hmph… I see the quality of character that none of you possess. He can be shameless with such complete composure. Can you?”
Dai Mubai fell silent.
“That is an essential quality for a powerhouse. If you cannot even manage that, then you do not possess the potential to become one.”
“All right. I won’t judge who was right or wrong today. Go back to sleep.”
With his hands behind his back, Zhao Wuji turned and walked away. Inwardly, however, he was overjoyed.
I struck gold. I really struck gold! I never imagined this boy could display shamelessness, baseness, and lewdness to such an astonishing degree—and leave everyone utterly helpless against him! One word: superb!
…
Dai Mubai left dejectedly, though some of the resentment in his heart had faded. At least things were not as he had imagined…
“But there was no need to throw away the things I gave her! Gu Chen, just wait. I may not be able to beat you, Dai Mubai, but that doesn’t mean Tang San can’t beat you! He’ll be back in a few days. Once he learns that you taught Xiao Wu to play the flute in the middle of the night, let’s see how you survive! Hmph…”
Dai Mubai muttered to himself, his eyes filled with malicious intent.
The next day at noon, after relaxing following several hours of training, Gu Chen began flirting with Ning Rongrong.

“Senior Rongrong, you look especially beautiful today!”
“Do I?”
A faint smile spread across Ning Rongrong’s face. Her large, beautiful eyes gave Gu Chen a sidelong glance.
A mischievous smile bloomed across Gu Chen’s handsome face. Then, in a tender and affectionate voice, he said:
“The world is so vast that I want to see it all, but I can’t bear to go alone.”
“Who would you go with?”
“You, naturally, Senior.”
“I had a nightmare because of you last night!”
“What? Because of me?”
“Mhm.” Gu Chen nodded seriously.
“What kind of nightmare was it?” Ning Rongrong asked, eyeing him suspiciously.
“A nightmare without you in it.”
“You…” Ning Rongrong was rendered speechless.
“Junior, that’s a very forced attempt at flirting…”
“Heh heh heh… If I can win a beauty’s smile, why wouldn’t I?”
Ning Rongrong rolled her eyes at Gu Chen.
“Gu Chen, you flirt so shamelessly every day. What will you do if you really manage to win me over one day?”
“I’ll take responsibility for you to the very end.”
Ning Rongrong suddenly felt a little touched.
Gu Chen was right. If he truly won her over, what else could he do? Spend one night together and take responsibility for her forever.
“What are you two talking about? You seem to be having so much fun!”
A delicate voice, fine as a girl’s, rang out.
Oscar’s figure had appeared at some point beside a drooping willow not far from them.
