Chapter Sixty-Three: The Beast Squad
Ning Zhongwu looked like a wronged wife, gazing mournfully at his fourth brother. The sight touched the kind-hearted child, who couldn’t bear it and took out all the beast eggs from his storage ring, handing them to his second brother. “You can raise the chick first, and these eggs too—once they grow up, you’ll be able to form a beast squadron. Chiyan says these are all good eggs.”
“You said we have to wait for them to grow up. That could take ages—ah!” Ning Zhongwu shrieked, startling his men so much they all flinched.
“What’s wrong now?” Ning Mofei asked, covering his ears in distress.
“These are all high-level beast eggs. If their parents show up, none of us will even be enough to fill their teeth! We should run!” Ning Zhongwu grabbed his brother and shouted to his subordinates, “Mount up, everyone!”
“No need to run, second brother!” Yu Youwei hurriedly called out.
Ning Zhongwu was about to move but stopped at her words.
“Chiyan brought us here to collect them—it’s fine,” Yu Youwei explained softly.
His face twitched twice, and Ning Zhongwu looked at Mofei as if he were some kind of monster. “What tier of beast did you actually tame?”
“It says I can’t tell you; otherwise, you’ll be scared to death,” Ning Mofei answered honestly.
Taken aback, Ning Zhongwu cursed, exhaling heavily before saying, “From now on, if anyone asks, just say it’s peak tier five.”
Seeing Ning Zhongwu’s expression, Yu Youwei couldn’t help but laugh and shook her head. “Second brother, let Mofei help you pick out some beasts. With Chiyan’s strength, forming a beast squadron should be no trouble at all. I need to find a place to cultivate—I feel I’m about to break through.”
“I’ll protect you, second brother. The squadron can wait,” Ning Zhongwu replied immediately.
“No need. Chiyan will find me a place to cultivate; no beasts will disturb me. Just take care of Mofei for a few days.”
“Alright, focus on your cultivation. I’ll look after Mofei. Third brother should arrive soon too.”
“Then you all eat first. I’ll have Chiyan take me inside and send it back to find you later.” Yu Youwei stood up, leaping onto Chiyan as it sped away.
Watching the Red Cloud Deer King glide away until it vanished from sight, Ning Zhongwu muttered, “What’s going on? Chiyan seems to understand sister-in-law’s words?”
“Chiyan always understands us—it was just angry earlier,” Ning Mofei shrugged.
“It doesn’t want to form the Red Flame Guard? Then don’t force it. I’ll explain to grandpa.” Tapping his brother’s nose, Ning Zhongwu smiled, “Chiyan is powerful—don’t anger it. One stomp, and you’ll be flattened.”
“It wouldn’t dare. It said it’ll give me a Hundred Deer Guard, but no more than that.” Seeing his second brother’s eyes widen in disappointment, Ning Mofei bit his lower lip and added, “A few more beast squadrons wouldn’t hurt.”
Rubbing his stubbly chin, Ning Zhongwu asked, “A hundred deer? That herd doesn’t even have a hundred, does it? Are there more herds elsewhere?”
Ning Mofei answered succinctly, “I don’t know.”
“You said earlier it wouldn’t dare—does it fear sister-in-law?” As Ning Mofei was about to reply, Ning Zhongwu quickly covered his mouth and said gruffly, “For questions like this, whoever asks, don’t answer. If you must, just say ‘Tide Pavilion’ updates fastest—let them ask sister-in-law. Just remember, Chiyan follows you willingly.”
Scratching his head, Ning Mofei thought seriously and asked, “So for anything about Chiyan, just say I don’t know? Everyone already thinks I’m a fool; no one will doubt it.”
The bonfire was lit, its glow highlighting the gloom on Ning Mofei’s face. Ning Zhongwu hurried to comfort him, “You’re not a fool, just suffering from cold poison. Once you’re cured, you’ll be fine.”
“I think my illness is getting worse.” Ning Mofei pointed sorrowfully at the small tent raised between his legs.
Understanding what his fourth brother meant—the condition that normal men experience, which eunuchs lack—Ning Zhongwu stifled his laughter and said, “That’s not a serious illness, but only sister-in-law can help. She hasn’t reached Foundation yet, so some things can’t be done. You’ll have to handle it yourself.”
Deep in the Cloud Wilds, thick mist rolled across the surface of the Poison Crocodile Pool. Among the emerald duckweed, stump-like poison crocodiles lifted their heads, opening cold, sinister eyes to watch the approaching red cloud.
The Red Cloud Deer King stopped at the shore, Yu Youwei sitting atop its back, looking down at the crocodiles in the pool. “I want to take some poison crocodiles out. How many can you suppress? The stronger, the better—preferably sixth tier or above.”
The little white bear sprawled lazily atop the deer’s head. “If you’re taking some, pick ones as cute as Grandpa Bear. Why not leave these toxic stumps behind?”
Yu Youwei weighed her beast control token in her hand, her delicate face showing a chilling murderous intent. “They’ll self-destruct soon enough—what does ugliness matter?”
The Red Cloud Deer King shivered at her words, while the little white bear grinned slyly. “Self-destruction? Grandpa Bear likes that. Thirty, seventh to eighth tier—take your pick.”
“Half and half, then. Let’s get to work.” Yu Youwei tossed a vial of poison pills to the little white bear. “Once they’re suppressed, let them take this berserk pill. We need to hurry—Xuancha Palace is far, and I have to rush back to cultivate.”
Roaring echoed across the formation-sliced space, and the entire Poison Dragon Pool boiled. The poison crocodiles rushed about like ants on a hot pan, some swimming to shore.
Watching them crawl onto land and obediently swallow the berserk pills given by the little white bear, Yu Youwei jumped down and collected each into her beast control token.
The beast control token was a mobile beast park, and the one given by Marshal Ning contained an especially large space. Even after storing thirty five-zhang-long poison crocodiles, it only took up half.
Yu Youwei secured her token, left Chiyan and the little white bear behind, and slipped behind a tree. She took out the firefox mask she used when appearing as Lady Poison, along with a set of peach-pink robes. Just as she began to change, sudden chaos erupted in the Poison Dragon Pool—a crocodile with iron-gray skin and dark golden stripes lunged from the water, charging straight at her.
Both the Red Cloud Deer King and the little white bear were too far away, and neither expected that under the pressure of the bear’s divine beast aura, a crocodile could remain unsuppressed. By the time they realized something was wrong, the crocodile’s venom had already splattered over her head and face, its massive jaws barely a meter away.
A crocodile that could withstand the beast’s aura showed terrifying strength—if it bit her head, Yu Youwei would surely perish.
“It’s over!” The little white bear, as if witnessing the end, slumped to the ground.
