Chapter 100: Absolute Power
In an instant, every eye in the room turned to Chu Wentian.
How had Lin Xiao, an E-grade awakened one, managed to enter the capital’s Spirit Martial Academy? And how had he dared to say so before Chu Wentian himself?
What gave him the courage?
“Headmaster, we need an explanation!”
“Yes! Adviser, does our academy have favoritism too?”
Chu Wentian had been watching the commotion with amusement, never expecting Lin Xiao to reveal everything so openly. That rather surprised him.
He also wanted to see what Lin Xiao was capable of. Since those two had recommended him, Chu Wentian absolutely did not believe he was lacking in real ability.
“Lin Xiao, explain yourself.”
After admitting that his ability was only E-grade, Lin Xiao had already known this would not end so simply.
People would certainly doubt him. The best way to silence them was with strength.
“Although my ability is E-grade vision enhancement, it is not wrong to say I’m an S-grade strength-type. A quick test will make that clear. Zheng Jia, when you introduced yourself earlier, you said you were an S-grade strength-type. Why don’t we compare strength?”
Zheng Jia stood up as well, brimming with confidence in his own power.
A mere E-grade awakened one actually wanted to challenge him in strength. How laughable.
“Afraid of you? Fine. How do you want to compare?”
“Arm wrestling.”
“I’m honestly afraid that one careless move might snap your wrist.”
Lin Xiao gave no reply. Such bold words now would only make the slap of reality sting harder later.
He glanced at the wooden table before them. Feeling that it might not withstand their contest, his gaze shifted to another young man nearby.
“I remember you’re from the metal type. Reinforce this table. If we damage academy property later, we’ll have to pay for it.”
The young man who had been addressed could not help rolling his eyes, but he still reinforced the table. In no time, a heavy layer of metal covered its surface.
Only then did Lin Xiao nod in satisfaction and place his hand on the table.
“Come on.”
Zheng Jia naturally would not back down. He sat opposite Lin Xiao at once, and their hands locked together.
Chu Wentian took the initiative to act as referee. Seeing that both were ready, he called for the start.
Zheng Jia immediately began to exert force. He had expected to crush Lin Xiao with ease, only to discover that no matter how hard he tried, Lin Xiao did not budge in the slightest.
How was that possible? He was a genuine strength-type awakened one.
Seeing Zheng Jia clenching his teeth until his face reddened, Lin Xiao remained completely relaxed.
“Classmate, did you skip breakfast? Put some strength into it.”
Zheng Jia’s face flushed scarlet. He now understood that he had met his match.
He could not keep this up. This guy’s strength really was no joke. It seemed impossible to defeat him without using spirit techniques.
“Careful. I’m going to use my spirit techniques.”
Lin Xiao nodded. At least this Zheng Jia had warned him first; his character was not bad.
“Power Surge!”
“Berserk Force!”
“Battle Intensification!”
At first, Zheng Jia had worried that his sudden increase in power might injure Lin Xiao. But after using his spirit techniques, he discovered that Lin Xiao could still remain utterly unmoved.
That completely ignited his fighting spirit, and he used all three techniques that amplified strength.
Only then did Lin Xiao finally feel a trace of pressure. As expected of an S-grade strength-type, he was almost catching up to him.
The surrounding students stared at the two of them in bewilderment.
“Zheng Jia, stop holding back! Push harder!”
“Is it possible that Lin Xiao is really an S-grade strength-type?”
“You idiot, how could he be a strength-type? Lin Xiao is using pure physical strength, okay? Haven’t you noticed he still hasn’t used a single spirit technique?”
A single remark awakened the dreamer, and the entire room once again fell silent.
Lin Xiao had a clear understanding of his own strength now. From the looks of it, his true power was even greater than that of an S-grade strength-type.
“Careful. I’m going to put some force into it.”
After warning him, Lin Xiao began to press down directly. Zheng Jia, though already prepared thanks to the warning, still could not withstand absolute power.
Very quickly, his hand was pinned flat against the table by Lin Xiao.
“You yielded graciously.”
Zheng Jia was not the kind of person who could not accept defeat. He lost, and that was that; there was nothing to brood over.
What he could not understand was why this had happened.
“Can you tell me why your strength is so overwhelming?”
Lin Xiao himself did not know how to explain it. There were many reasons behind his strength: eating high-grade beast meat was one, but the main reason was that pill. Still, none of that was easy to explain.
“Well, more training, I guess.”
Zheng Jia: o(′^`)o
As if I’d believe that. If training alone could produce that kind of strength, would strength-type awakened ones even need to exist?
He did not press further. Everyone had secrets of their own. If Lin Xiao would not say, then he simply did not wish to say. Zheng Jia would not force the issue.
Only then did Lin Xiao look at the others. “Now, everyone should have no objections, right?”
Naturally, no one else would object. If he could completely overwhelm an S-grade strength-type in raw power, then he certainly had the qualifications to remain in this class.
After Lin Xiao stepped down, Sun Bin and the other two stared at him in shock.
They had only just learned how monstrous Lin Xiao’s strength truly was.
Lin Xiao smiled faintly. “This is basic stuff. There’ll be plenty more to surprise you with later.”
After Lin Xiao, only Luo Yao remained in the corner.
Luo Yao also looked at Lin Xiao with a hint of surprise before walking up to the podium.
“My name is Luo Yao. I’m a fourth-level SSS-grade dual light-and-dark type from Jinling. You should all know my situation already, but let me warn you anyway: don’t provoke me. Otherwise, I don’t mind showing you why I’m called the Witch.”
As she spoke, Luo Yao shot Lin Xiao a fierce glare.
No need to look to know that the one in control of Luo Yao now was still her second personality.
The classroom was deathly quiet. Many of the students looked at Luo Yao with awe.
Only Lin Xiao still wore the expression of someone utterly unafraid of boiling water being poured over a dead pig.
Luo Yao was nearly ready to deal with him on the spot, but seeing Chu Wentian beside her, she restrained herself.
With a cold snort, she returned to her seat with brisk, elegant steps.
Once everyone had introduced themselves, Chu Wentian returned to the podium.
“Very good. I believe everyone now has some understanding of one another. Next is the selection of class monitor. There’s no need for an election; I’ll assign it directly. Luo Yao, your strength is the greatest, so you’ll be class monitor.”
Luo Yao curled her lip. “I don’t want it. Whoever likes it can do it.”
Chu Wentian had not expected Luo Yao to be so uncooperative. This little girl had quite the personality.
Fine, if she did not want it, then so be it.
“Lin Xiao, then you’ll do it?”
Lin Xiao was surprised that Chu Wentian had actually named him. He quickly waved his hands.
“Adviser, please find someone else. I’m a pretty lazy person. I’m not suited to be class monitor.”
Lin Xiao was telling the truth. He just wanted to lie flat and coast through life. The exhausting, thankless job of class monitor should be left to someone else.
Chu Wentian was speechless. What was going on? Why did this class monitor position feel like a hot potato that everyone was refusing?
“Xu Jingyi, then you can be class monitor.”
Xu Jingyi was a third-level powerhouse, the highest-ranked student in the class besides Luo Yao. If she became class monitor, no one would object.
“Okay, Adviser.”
“In that case, it’s settled. Lin Xiao, stay behind. Everyone else may go back.”
Suddenly singled out, Lin Xiao was somewhat speechless.
Why call me out? Can’t I just live peacefully as an idle layabout?
