Chapter 21: The Cold-Hearted Prince with a White Moonlight in His Heart 1
In the end, the three elders of the Fu family agreed with Fu Chen’s idea.
Grandpa Jing was deeply moved, but that sentiment came to an abrupt halt the moment he learned the Fu family had purchased the property next door. How was this any different from the two families living together?
Although Fu Chen knew Jing Yunluo would certainly marry him, he insisted on having all the proper rituals. The marriage proposal, the engagement ceremony, and the wedding—not a single one was to be skipped. However, Jing Yunluo never gave him the green light on registering their marriage. Fu Chen couldn’t understand why; they had already held the wedding, and everyone knew they were a couple. Shouldn’t registering the marriage be the natural next step?
Jing Yunluo, however, had her own reasons. After the wedding, her favorability rating remained stuck at 97%, neither dropping nor rising. She felt incredibly frustrated, as if she were in a standoff with Fu Chen, and simply refused to go register the marriage. Yet, this behavior only made Fu Chen feel increasingly insecure. After all, they would only be a legal couple once the certificate was signed; as long as that hadn’t happened, Fu Chen feared that Jing Yunluo might run away.
Consequently, after the wedding, Fu Chen clung to Jing Yunluo day and night, even dumping the company’s affairs on Grandpa Fu and his father so he could take her on a honeymoon. What was supposed to be a honeymoon turned into a full three months. The employees at the Fu Corporation breathed a sigh of relief—after all, who wouldn't be happy that the "Living Yama" wasn't around?
Jing Yunluo, however, was on the verge of tears. Her waist really couldn't take three months of a "honeymoon." She had originally planned an itinerary while on the plane, but after they landed and checked into the hotel, she barely stepped outside.
"Fu Chen! Don't go too far!" Jing Yunluo clutched the quilt to cover herself, leaving only her head exposed, and glared at Fu Chen with eyes full of threat.
Fu Chen, unbothered, lay back down and pulled her into his arms. "Wife, how about I take you out to play today?"
"Are you sure you mean it?" Jing Yunluo’s trust in Fu Chen was currently near zero; his performance over the past few days left her no choice but to be on guard.
"Don't worry! I've already booked a restaurant. I'll definitely keep my word today!" Fu Chen pulled her out of bed and carried her to the bathroom to wash up.
"I feel like a useless person now," Jing Yunluo sighed after rinsing the toothpaste foam from her mouth.
"What’s wrong? Our Luo Luo is capable of managing the household and cooking; how could you be useless?" Fu Chen embraced her from behind, resting his chin gently on her head with a doting look and a tender smile.
"Ever since we came on this honeymoon, I haven't washed up by myself even once. If I'm not a useless person, what am I?"
"Of course you aren't useless. Our Luo Luo is a little princess! Princesses don't need to do these things themselves, unless... the princess's knight isn't home."
Jing Yunluo finished washing her face and turned to hug him. "I've been refusing to register our marriage—are you very angry?"
"Angry? Not really, just a bit puzzled. But I know you must have your own reasons."
Jing Yunluo thought to herself, *Of course I have reasons; your favorability rating hasn't reached the maximum yet...*
Just as she thought this, the system appeared.
[My Lady, the favorability rating has reached 99.9%.]
[When did it get that high?] Jing Yunluo was bewildered.
[Um... last night, when you were doing "that."]
[Wait a minute, you didn't watch the whole thing, did you?]
[Of course not! The system has its own dignity, you know! We never pry into other people's privacy!]
[Then why didn't you tell me at the time?]
[My Lady, how could I have told you then? Don't you think it would be... very perverted for me to tell you in that situation?]
The system was going crazy. Jing Yunluo felt awkward; the system was right. Thinking about it, it would have been quite embarrassing.
"What are you thinking about?" Fu Chen asked, holding her.
"I'm thinking that capitalists are indeed bloodsuckers," Jing Yunluo blurted out subconsciously.
Fu Chen’s expression was quite spectacular.
Later on, not long after they returned home from their honeymoon, Jing Yunluo became pregnant. Calculating the dates, it had happened during the honeymoon. The moment Fu Chen learned of the pregnancy, the remaining 0.1% of his favorability rating was finally filled. Since she was pregnant, they had to register the marriage immediately. Jing Yunluo no longer resisted and went with him to get the certificate.
A few months later, Jing Yunluo gave birth to a daughter. Ever since, Fu Chen had gone completely mad, turning into a total "daughter slave." Jing Yunluo could only watch in awe.
In this world, Jing Yunluo stayed by Fu Chen's side until the very last moment of his life.
"Luo Luo, the luckiest thing in my life was marrying you. I can lose everything, but I cannot lose you."
Jing Yunluo looked at the final letter Fu Chen had written long ago, smiled, and gazed at him lying on the bed as if he were just asleep.
"Fu Chen, I’m here to accompany you."
Fu Chen passed away, and Jing Yunluo’s mission was complete.
[Congratulations, My Lady, for completing the mission and saving the world! Now initiating the next mission!]
Jing Yunluo felt a bit dizzy. She felt something was wrong with the system's words, but she couldn't quite put her finger on it. When her mind finally cleared, she slowly opened her eyes, but everything around her was unfamiliar.
"Your Highness, you're awake!" A young girl of about thirteen or fourteen appeared by the bedside, speaking to her in a soft, gentle voice.
"You..." The system hadn't provided the plot for this world yet, so Jing Yunluo decided to speak as little as possible. Given the situation, she needed to figure out who this girl was first.
"Your Highness, this servant is called Meng Yue. You can just call me Yue'er. The Prince sent me to serve you."
The girl was clearly frightened, likely because she hadn't yet grasped the temperament of this Princess—understandable, as it was only their first day of marriage. Jing Yunluo looked at the dragon and phoenix candles on the table and made a guess: it seemed the original owner of this body was not favored by the Prince; otherwise, the candles wouldn't have been left to burn down so little.
"Yue'er, you may step out for now. I will wash up myself."
"Yes!" Meng Yue retreated from the room and closed the door considerately.
[System!]
[I'm here, My Lady! Sending the memories of the original owner over right now!]
After absorbing the memories, Jing Yunluo frowned. The original owner, Jing Yunluo, was the daughter of the Crown Prince's tutor. She had been well-educated since childhood and was proficient in all the refined arts. Everyone expected that the original owner, having grown up as a childhood sweetheart to the Crown Prince, would eventually become the Crown Princess. However, unexpectedly, she fell in love with the frail and sickly Prince Jin, Situ Che.
Later, the Emperor saw that the original owner’s obsession with Situ Che had reached a point of madness, and since her father was a friend from his days before ascending the throne, he granted them marriage. Who knew that Situ Che had long held someone else in his heart? Naturally, he cared nothing for the wife forced upon him.
On their wedding night, Situ Che coughed up blood in front of her, claiming his poor health meant he would likely not live past thirty-five, and that by marrying him, she would likely be a widow in all but name...
