Chapter Eight: When the ATM Meets the Sister-Supporting Demon
Under the large tree in front of the office, Ye Kun wore a colder expression than he did inside, exuding an imposing air as he said, "Xiang Yu, this time, Nuanxin was in the wrong. I'll make her apologize to you and compensate you two hundred yuan. You can buy yourself something nice to make up for it."
In Ye Kun’s impression, Xiang Yu was honest and easy to get along with.
So without further ado, he proposed this resolution, assuming Xiang Yu would accept it.
Xiang Yu’s bright, almond-shaped eyes were filled with coldness. "Teacher Ye, Nuanxin’s actions have seriously damaged my reputation and caused me psychological harm. This is not something that can be resolved with a simple apology and a little money."
Ye Kun, taken aback by her rebuttal, frowned. "Then what do you want to do? You two have always had a good relationship. We live in the same village; we see each other all the time. Your parents would surely accept an apology and compensation rather than causing a fuss."
Xiang Yu couldn’t hide the sarcasm on her face. She hadn’t expected a university student from the Ye family to be so selfish at heart.
She sneered coldly, "Teacher Ye, you’ve really opened my eyes. As an educator, you define ‘causing a fuss’ like this? Perhaps we should ask the school administration to judge who is truly causing the trouble."
With that, Xiang Yu turned and walked away, leaving no room for reconciliation.
It wasn’t just anger but also the realization that there was no use reasoning with someone who feigned ignorance while twisting right into wrong.
Ye Kun’s face darkened like the bottom of a pot. He never imagined Xiang Yu was so formidable; she usually acted like a naive, innocent rabbit.
No matter how furious he was, he couldn’t force her with threats or coaxing. Could he really make a scene in broad daylight?
Nuanxin wasn’t even his own sister; it wasn’t worth compromising his reputation for her.
He could only take out his phone and call Nuanxin’s parents, explaining what she had done and warning that Nuanxin might not even be able to continue school unless Xiang Yu agreed to reconcile.
Nuanxin’s parents, always protective of their daughter, were not angry with her for her misconduct but were furious that Xiang Yu was being so ungrateful.
Ye Fen’s voice was assertive. "Xiaokun, stall the teachers for now. I’ll bring Xiang Fuqiang and his wife over immediately."
---
Ye Kun replied, "Alright. Since the Fuqiang couple loves money, you should compensate a bit more."
Ye Kun might be able to delay the teachers from making a decision so there would be time for private negotiations, but he could never stop Xiang Yu’s determination to conduct a thorough search.
By the time he returned, the Chinese teacher was already helping Xiang Yu search Nuanxin’s desk.
They found three or four locked notebooks, three or four vulgar books, a small MP3 player, several delicate trinkets, snacks, and chocolates.
They packed everything into a large plastic bag and hurried to the dormitory.
On the bed were three or four dolls; in the suitcase, over three hundred yuan, more than a dozen bracelets and necklaces, and more snacks.
There was also a nearly new portable cassette player.
With all this evidence laid bare, no one could dismiss it lightly.
Tears reddened Xiang Yu’s eyes.
To the class teacher and the Chinese teacher, she looked wronged and on the verge of tears but still holding back.
She was far more sympathetic than Nuanxin, who had done all these disgraceful things yet cried pitifully as if wronged.
Xiang Yu took a deep breath and declared, "Teacher Zhang, I hope Nuanxin is severely punished. What she has done has seriously harmed my reputation and psyche."
Teacher Zhang nodded gently. "I’ll keep these items safe for now. Nuanxin will be suspended to reflect at home while the school investigates. Xiang Yu, you should return to class."
Xiang Yu nodded.
She knew well that given the severity of the situation, even with Ye Kun’s meddling, Nuanxin would not be let off lightly, let alone be expelled.
At the very least, there would be a public school-wide reprimand and compensation.
Ye Kun hesitated but shamelessly followed Teacher Zhang, hoping to buy some time before Nuanxin’s parents arrived.
Xiang Yu had considered exaggerating her own suffering to make the teachers less biased.
---
But she really couldn’t afford to waste any more time. Though only thirty-two days remained before the high school entrance exam, she had to fight for it!
She didn’t stop taking notes even during breaks.
If there was one comfort about being reborn, it was that her handwriting no longer resembled chicken scratches.
In her past life, she had copied scriptures for three years, perfecting a delicate and elegant regular script.
At noon after class, she planned to eat quickly and then return to the classroom to copy others’ notes.
Just as she stepped out, someone called her loudly from afar.
She looked up and saw her parents and Nuanxin’s parents approaching.
Nuanxin was beside them, crying and wailing.
Xiang Yu couldn’t help but clench the plastic lunchbox in her hands tightly, her heart a tangle of complicated feelings and inexplicable irritation.
Seeing her parents again, all her resentment, unwillingness, and resistance naturally surged forth.
Her parents favored her younger brother, treating her and her older sister not as daughters but as cash machines and enablers for their brother.
In her previous life, her sister had died after marrying for a high bride price.
She was somewhat luckier. Thanks to her beauty, she became an internet celebrity, bought cars and houses for the family, and cleaned up messes caused repeatedly by her aimless brother.
But when she was diagnosed with incurable cancer, her parents and brother only cried briefly before asking her to write a will, leaving more money for their retirement and for her brother’s future marriage and children.
More curious students gathered around.
Ye Fen strode over to Xiang Yu, her face blazing with anger, radiating an overwhelming presence. If one didn’t know better, they might have thought she was Xiang Yu’s mother.
