Qiao Luo finally caught her breath and quickly helped the elderly man lie down. “You’ve just recovered, don’t move around!” She glanced around at the crowd. “Could everyone please step back a little? The patient needs fresh air! Is there anyone available who can accompany him to the clinic?”

Hearing her words, the people around immediately gave some space. Qiao Luo looked left and right again. “Is there a cushion or something for this gentleman to lean on? He needs to conserve his strength.”

Just moments earlier, when she performed CPR on the old man, everyone thought she was reckless, but now no one dared to disobey her. No one even mentioned that she looked too young to be a doctor.

After all, she had just brought a “dead” man back to life—a miracle doctor indeed! Surely her medical skills were superb and battle-tested; everything she said had to be right!

Zhou Mengni immediately fetched a stool from a vendor to help the old man lean against it.

The old man thanked Zhou Mengni and then looked kindly at Qiao Luo. “Young lady, thank you for saving me. Do you know your own name?”

Qiao Luo smiled confidently. “My name’s Qiao Luo, and this is my friend, Zhou Mengni.”

No doing good deeds anonymously, that’s for sure!

Nearby, Chen Liao and another comrade had been patrolling and noticed the crowd gathered at the supply store. Curious about what was happening, they squeezed through and happened to hear Qiao Luo’s words.

Chen Liao was momentarily stunned and couldn’t help but look over.

Among the dusty crowd, Qiao Luo stood out like a shining pearl, captivating Chen Liao’s full attention.

The people nearby were still praising Qiao Luo.

Listening, Chen Liao realized she had saved a stranger—an old man who had no breath left but was brought back to life!

He was incredulous, unable to imagine Qiao Luo possessed such skills.

Meanwhile, the comrade beside Chen Liao stared at the old man for a long moment, then hesitantly said, “That old gentleman… isn’t he our regiment commander’s father?”

Chen Liao’s heart jolted. He looked at the old man leaning on the stool and realized it was true.

He took a sharp breath, about to approach and strike up a conversation, but then a few men in military uniform pushed through the crowd and hurried toward the old man on the ground.

Chen Liao recognized them as the regiment commander Liu’s bodyguards and stopped in his tracks.

The bodyguards reached the old man, faces filled with concern.

“Sir, are you alright?”

“Why are you sitting on the ground?”

“We only looked away for a moment—how did you end up here?”

Liu’s father looked a bit embarrassed. “I just thought I’d come buy something…”

One young bodyguard frowned. “But you can’t just sneak off when we’re not watching! Your heart—what if something happened to you?”

An elderly woman nearby couldn’t help but speak up, “You all say that, but just now this old man collapsed and lost his breath. If it weren’t for this doctor here, he’d already be crossing the bridge to the afterlife!”

The bodyguards all gasped.

If something had really happened to Liu’s father, how could they explain it to Commander Liu? Especially since Liu had explicitly instructed them to take care of his father before leaving for a business trip to Lin City.

The bodyguards hurriedly thanked Qiao Luo.

One of them recognized Zhou Mengni. “Hey, isn’t this your sister-in-law?”

Zhou Mengni looked puzzled.

The bodyguard shyly scratched his head. “Sister-in-law, I was under Captain Qian before, now I’m a bodyguard for Commander Liu.”

Zhou Mengni suddenly understood but then scolded, “You guys really should be more careful. This old man isn’t well. How could you let him come alone to such a crowded place? With so many people pushing and shoving, how could he not have a relapse?”

She proudly linked arms with Qiao Luo. “Luckily, Comrade Qiao Luo’s medical skills are excellent and saved his life!” Suddenly remembering something, she added, “By the way, Comrade Qiao Luo is actually the fiancée of your Commander Qin—they’re about to get married!”

The bodyguards once again profusely thanked Qiao Luo, their gratitude and relief beyond words.

Still, they whispered among themselves: That Commander Qin, with his cold and sour temper, actually has such a fiancée? What a pity for Comrade Qiao Luo! If she marries him, won’t Commander Qin bully her?

Liu’s father’s eyes brightened. “Ah? Young lady, you’re Yan Zhou’s fiancée? That’s wonderful!”

He slapped his thigh. “I’ve worried a lot about Yan Zhou’s future, but that boy’s as stubborn as a rock in a cesspit—stinky and tough… Ah, no! I shouldn’t say that! But I never thought this old iron tree would bloom one day!”

Qiao Luo quickly stopped him, startled. “Sir, please calm down. Control your emotions—don’t get too excited.”

Liu’s father sheepishly lowered his hands.

Qiao Luo then turned to the bodyguards with a serious expression. “I only performed emergency rescue just now. You still need to take him to the clinic for a proper check. He just had a sudden heart attack.”

The moment the words “sudden death” were mentioned, the bodyguards shuddered. After thanking Qiao Luo for the third time, they hurriedly lifted Liu’s father, ignoring his protests.

Liu’s father cursed loudly, “I’m alive, damn it! Let me walk! I can walk myself!”

But his objections were futile; he was carried away regardless.

Only then did Qiao Luo smile brightly at Zhou Mengni. “Let’s go, Mengni. Don’t you still need to buy some snow cream?”

The crowd naturally cleared a path for her, showering her with praise. Qiao Luo simply smiled and nodded in response.

Zhou Mengni liked her calm and unflappable demeanor even more, linking arms warmly. “Let’s go—first to buy the snow cream, then I’ll accompany you to get your things.”

Chen Liao watched Qiao Luo and Zhou Mengni walk away, still stunned.

How could Qiao Luo know medicine?

How could she bring back a person who’d suddenly died?

And how could she smile so beautifully?

His comrade took a couple of steps forward, then noticed Chen Liao hadn’t followed. He reached out and tugged at him. “Captain Chen, what are you thinking? We have to keep patrolling!”

Chen Liao snapped back to reality, feeling uneasy.

He followed his comrade out of the store, hesitated, then suddenly said, “Xiao Ge, what do you think of Fang Qing… I mean, what do you think of my wife?”

Xiao Ge’s face lit up with envy. “You mean Comrade Fang Qing? She’s the head of the cultural troupe—beautiful, talented in singing and dancing. Everyone in the company says, Captain Chen, you marrying Comrade Fang Qing is truly a blessing!”

Chen Liao’s lips moved, forming a smile. “Yeah, I think so too.”
