Chapter Two: The Origins of the Senju Clan and the Uzumaki Clan

Konoha Village was far from bustling. At least, in this era, Konoha had yet to flourish. Many of the buildings bore a somewhat haphazard style, as if hastily constructed amidst the villagers’ busy affairs. Emiya Shirou paid little mind to the village’s simplicity, merely observing Konoha’s scenery with a curious interest, fascinated by the sights he encountered upon his revival.
“This is the village where we reside,” said Senju Tobirama, gesturing to the Anbu enforcing martial law, while recounting stories of this era to Emiya Shirou. “It has been over a thousand years since Lord Emiya’s time…”
“A thousand years?” Emiya Shirou echoed, a trace of melancholy in his voice, sighing softly. “No wonder the architectural style here is so different from what I’ve seen before…”
After speaking of Konoha’s buildings, Emiya Shirou suddenly seemed to realize something and brightened with joy. “Speaking of which, a thousand years have passed. Medical ninjutsu must have advanced greatly by now. In my time, there was no technique to revive the dead! The wisdom of future generations truly is remarkable.”
At this, Senju Tobirama’s expression subtly shifted. “I must admit, it’s somewhat embarrassing…” he sighed heavily, hoping Emiya Shirou would not be too disappointed by the medical standards of this era. “The forbidden jutsu that revived Lord Emiya was created for battle. It was only by sheer luck that he retained his consciousness. The medical ninjutsu and healing techniques of this era remain much the same as when Lord Emiya founded them…”
“Is that so?” Emiya Shirou’s countenance visibly darkened, as though his ideals had been shattered. “In the end, humanity still uses chakra’s power for combat…”
For a medical ninja, war was undoubtedly the greatest bane.
Since the Senju clan had preserved Emiya Shirou’s crystal coffin, Tobirama had heard many tales about him from childhood. He could guess at Emiya Shirou’s ideals but had to urge this esteemed predecessor to face reality.
“Everything is for survival,” Tobirama said bluntly. “To endure the brutal Warring States era, we had no choice but to continuously harness chakra to improve our combat abilities.”
He did not hide the chaos of that era, praising his elder brother before Emiya Shirou, hoping the founder of medical ninjutsu would understand how vital his brother was in this time.
“Fortunately…” Tobirama continued, “the war finally ended. My elder brother, Senju Hashirama, wielded immense power to bring the tumultuous Warring States era to a close, establishing a system of peace with nations and ninja villages.”
“We invited other ninja clans to create Konoha, where former enemies could lay down their grudges and become comrades relying on each other within one village.”
“As for the future…” Tobirama paused, taking the opportunity to paint a hopeful vision for this medical ninja pioneer from a millennium past: “As long as your wounds heal without shortening your life, your prestige will surely maintain peace in the ninja world. Future medical ninjutsu will undoubtedly make even greater progress.”
Emiya Shirou’s gaze grew complex.
Yet he refrained from directly bursting Tobirama’s hopeful bubble, sighing softly, “Rest assured, I would never betray my patients. Especially with a name like Senju…”
Tobirama showed no embarrassment. As the right hand to Konoha’s Hokage, he cared little for his own reputation if it meant achieving his goals.

However…
This sage, worshiped on a pedestal for a thousand years, seemed to hold untold stories.
Tobirama recalled Emiya Shirou’s relaxed manner when mentioning the Senju clan, prompting him to probe further. “Lord Emiya, you must have some connection to our clan, as our children have grown up listening to your tales…”
“There is a slight connection,” Emiya Shirou replied casually as he followed Tobirama, recounting a piece of history he once lived through. “I had a friend named Ashura, who could not use his father’s surname. I gave him two surnames for his descendants to use as backup…”
“One surname was Senju.”
“The other was Uzumaki.”
Emiya Shirou looked at Tobirama and sighed, “It seems Ashura’s descendants chose the Senju name…”
Tobirama’s pupils suddenly widened in shock.
He had never imagined that his clan’s surname originated from this! Yet it was undeniable.
These two surnames have persisted through the ages, their respective clans—Senju and Uzumaki—distant relatives descended from the same ancestor.
“Actually…” Tobirama took a deep breath and spoke gravely, “both Senju and Uzumaki were used. The Uzumaki clan is our distant kin.”
“Truly unexpected that the Senju of the forest and the Uzumaki clan both trace their names back to Lord Emiya…”
He mused that when his elder brother awoke, he would surely have much to say.
He had used the forbidden jutsu of Impure World Reincarnation to revive a revered predecessor, especially one so closely linked to their ancestors.
“Time flies, and the world changes,” Emiya Shirou’s tone was laden with nostalgia, as if longing for an old friend. “I never imagined that Ashura’s descendants still exist after all this time…”
Tobirama remained silent, sensing that Lord Emiya must have been very close to their ancestor named Ashura.
This was a good thing.
At least he knew the other was mostly benevolent.
Though Tobirama trusted Emiya Shirou’s impeccable reputation, he approached his elder brother’s matters with great caution, unable to fully trust powers beyond control.
For instance…

The Uchiha clan within the village.
Though the Uchiha were also members of Konoha, Tobirama could not fully trust their uncontrollable power.
Especially recently, when Uchiha Madara—the previous clan leader who had left Konoha years ago—suddenly manipulated the Nine-Tails to attack the village, inflicting grievous wounds upon Tobirama’s elder brother.
Because of this, Tobirama ordered the Anbu to intensify their surveillance of the Uchiha clan.
Though Madara was finally slain by his elder brother’s decisive hand, the rest of the Uchiha might be innocent. Still, Tobirama could not guarantee that another dangerous figure like Madara would not arise from among them.
After all…
His elder brother’s existence was a rare exception for the Senju clan, but Madara was a possibility within the Uchiha.
The Uchiha inherited the bloodline limit of the Sharingan, born from malevolent chakra, which can evolve in unpredictable ways. Perhaps one day, another dangerous and evil person like Madara will be born again.
This was a looming threat.
“I wonder…” Emiya Shirou suddenly mentioned an unfamiliar name, seeming concerned that Tobirama might not understand. He began telling the story of Indra.
“Indra and Ashura were brothers.”
“Indra and I disagreed in our beliefs.”
“Ashura and I believed chakra should be used to understand and save the world; Indra believed chakra was a power to dominate the world…”
“In the end…”
“We parted ways.”
“I do not know what surname Indra’s descendants bear.”
When Emiya Shirou said this, he seemed completely unaware of Indra’s heirs, and carefully described their traits.
“But his descendants likely inherited a mysterious and powerful bloodline limit, which manifests as unique chakra in their eyes and, upon evolution, grants them some formidable and strange dōjutsu…”
“That dōjutsu is called the Sharingan.”
Tobirama volunteered the name of this bloodline limit.
The right hand to Konoha’s Hokage darkened his eyes deeply, astonished that Indra and Ashura were siblings, and that the troublesome Uchiha clan and the Senju clan were connected…
However…
The Uchiha truly were born evil!
Their ancestor was so malevolent!
Compared to the righteous Senju ancestor Ashura, the Uchiha ancestor Indra harbored the sinister desire to use chakra to rule the world!
Even a noble medical ninja like Emiya Shirou would not wish to associate with the evil progenitor of the Uchiha clan!
